I'm applying for illness/misadventure for the HSC exams. How do they calculate the marks if the application is approved? Say I did well in paper 1, and did significantly better in the exam than the internals will they award the higher mark or just give you an average? Can someone explain how it works?

If your application is upheld, you will be awarded the higher of your examination mark and a mark derived from your assessment mark or unaffected components of your examination. In the case of the optional VET HSC examinations, if your application is upheld you will receive your examination mark or a mark derived from an estimate submitted by your school, whichever is higher.

If your application is declined, you will be awarded the mark you achieved in the examination. If you were absent from an examination and your illness/misadventure application is declined, you will not receive any result in that course. This could mean that you become ineligible for the award of the Higher School Certificate.

Please note that if you are applying for all exams you may get it for some and not others as they give you what it BEST for you and it is possible that in some cases you will get a better mark with your exam and others without it.
