The processor would be too expensive and impractical for desktop computers. They will probably only be used in the hardcore processor market, which Intel is less focused on then it used to be...

Yes, however you may have noticed this near the end of the article:

Presently AMD is working with IBM on its next-gen fabrication and manufacturing processes for its 65 nm products; maybe we'll see some crossover technology that will really give Intel a run for its money.
