Do I really need a tutor to get good UAI?

hi
im doing my hsc next year, Math4u, EngAdv, Chem, Physics. Do i really need to get a tutor to get a uai above 90? Or i can just stay at home study on my own? Anyone had the same problem before? And what kind marks in each of those subjects do i need to get an uai 90+?

No. My gf managed to get a UAI of 97.4 without a tutor.

In conclusion, no. :)

Really? Because there are so many tutoring ads making me think that you cant possibly get a good uai if there is no tutoring

...
that is the stupidest thing I've read all day.

Clearly, if you're smart and have a good work ethic (even if you're not that smart tbh) you can pull off a UAI well above 90. It all comes down to the amount of work you do, your subjects to some extent and the overall ability of your cohort.

I'd say tutoring helps. Yeah it's possible, but it seems to be easier with a tutor. Also depends on the person. You could suck at being an independant studier dude.

Ive never had a tutor and i'm aiming for high 90's

I'll get back to you in december =]

Honestly, tutoring is good if you need it. But don't do it for the sake of it. Thats just pointless and a waste of time and money.

If you're capable of learning on your own, no.

This.

I think it was Mum threatening "We'll get you a tutor if you don't get over 75% in the next Math Ext test" that made me dig my heels in and get that goddamn mark.

English tutors I see as pointless and annoying: STOP WRITING ESSAYS FOR KIDS AND I MIGHT CHANGE MY MIND. Maths and Sciences and Histories... eh, not as annoying, I just couldn't stand Mum paying for that which I know I have the capability of earning on my own.

That being said, my friend's dad tutors her and another friend in 4U, as their teacher is quite inept. That doesn't grate against me so much =P
