it just came to my attention, that markers probably dont know every single word that was ever said by people such as hitler, speer, reagan, gorbachev etc.

i was thinking (believe it or not) that it could be possible to... well i know that "lie" is a strong word... but say quote Hitler for example on something that he "may / may not" have said... if you get my idea lol

because as i said, would the markers know everything quote that Hitler had in his life? and if i said say... it was from Newton, would the marker go.. "hang on i dont remember that being in there! i better just read the 396pg. text book to prove him wrong!"

wat do u guys think?

would hate for them to know u made it up tho? they might dis-credit )is that even a word?) ur whole essay? my teacher is a marker, and she said they wouldnt notice a few words, but if u made the whole thing up...then yes...but i think the markers specialise in certain areas dont they? like a teacher who's awesome @ germany, only marks the germany essays? i dunno? does any1 else know anything bout it?

lol just the thought of someone putting in stupid quotes and pretending someone said it makes me laugh... i think it would be good like

"...as Stalin expected all party officials to 'adhere to [his] almighty rule' (D.Christian)"

sounds good to me!

IIIIIIII like it. Chuck the name David Christian on the end of anything and it could probably pass. That guy has something to say about everything.

if you're having trouble, don't under-estimate the power of paraphrasing.

I dont think thats true. My teacher said the markers get split up. For example the peoplelwho do mark the indochina papers will be teachers who are currently teaching that topic/or who have taught that topic in the past.

The quotes, you would be surprised that many markers do know all the famous quotes tha ppl use. For example "squash the German lemon till the pips squeek" is one veyr common one. Even if they dot know the quotes they ususally know the famous historians. But if you do some topic like the UN, then good luck to the markers :) cause most students make them up.

I would make up quotes by historians (sometimes, even make up the historian!!) rather than lie about things aid by Hitler and such.

I agree... a thousand historians wrote a book called "Detente" and whether it was a quote from Haliday, or from... C. York, they're not going to know.

BUT, of course, paraphrasing would probably be the better option. Your markers don't want to see you memories random quotes, they want to see that you've read and understood a historians argument.

for short quotes that can be used in a variety of essays, I would recommend memorising them. But for long quotes that are specific to a particular possible essay question, understanding it and then paraphrasing would be better.

Wouldnt' they consult the expert on German History, for example, if its a major issue in an essay. Otherwise, I don't think its worth bothering.

Just learn your quotes. If you want an effortless way, you either write them out several times, or do it the inner_child way.

I managed to remember HUNDREDS of quotes by recording myself reading the quotes onto tape.

Play this before you go to bed at night, and listen to it on your way to school, perhaps of the morning of an exam.

It sounds cliche, and sounds like something out of the Simpsons, but it really does work. You just get so amused with how stupid you sound reading the quotes, but this is your reading voice anyway.
