There were lots of men with knives hiding in various corners, and demons waiting in the toilets. You also had to wear garlic at night, lest vampires came out to attack you. The lecturers sniggered as they dealt out the first lessons, and the students packed the lecture halls, huddled in fear from the outside world. The tutors sat on their asses asking us how to solve the questions, and failure to answer meant excution. The classrooms have chairs with claw marks all over them and one had to watch his back to ensure others didn't steal his books.

Aight first day was a matter of getting to lecture on time, while all the other students who made it late sat on the staircases cuz they missed out on seats. Plenty of "oh hai wats ur name" and lulz.
A few weeks later only 3/4 of the students who showed up on day one continued to attend lectures
maybe, it could be different from ur perspective.

You can make new friends in tutorials even in the last week, it's really not that difficult, esp if you offer to help them /each other (assuming you have the required intelligence which fenris does not).HAHAHA you sound like you strategically position yourself in the first weeks to 'latch onto' other friendship groups, to find a sense of belonging. Or, it depends on their program guide, e.g. ELEC1111 is a 1st year elective for Electrical Engineers while it is a 2nd year elective for Mechanical Engineers.

and i was one of the 2 people from my grade in highschool to go to UNSW. The other person is doing engineering and I only see him every now and then around the uni.
Soo, I had to get to know people. Just don't be a shy person. Shy people never get anywhere in life. If you're good at talking about random things, you'll make friends no sweat.
But unfortunately I kinda secluded myself (not sure if that's the right word) from others. Eventually I began opening up.. but i do have a general phobia of talking to random people.. But i'm overcoming that slowly but surely.

I remember my first week.
In lectures i would introduce myself to someone and strike up a conversation, and ALL of them would just reply with one word answers.
eg) Me: Hey what course you doing?
Them: Engineering
Me: Oh kewl, so what kinda engineering you doing?
Them: Civil
Me: Ah ok so what subjects you doing
Them : Math
Me: Where you live?
Them: city
Me: Ok.......
Usually people are supposed to reply then ask the same question... creates some fluency. :S Most of the people i talked to in first week seemed pretty unsocial.
I guess i prolly just talked to a lot of internationals....
Labs are the best to make good friends as everyone is casual and relaxed.

God happens to me MANY times! Plus I'm selective. So that pretty much restricts the number of people I get along with.

Jesus, I don't know how these people even have friends!! Lectures are hard to know people, labs and tuts definitely are the best.
Girls in Science (Especially Food Science) are all a secluded bunch, even if they see you, they don't acknowledge you at all, etc!

Girls in Science (Especially Food Science) are all a secluded bunch, even if they see you, they don't acknowledge you at all, etc!
I'm not too social myself, and probably too shy to know people. But when you head into a room with no one you know, it gets pretty hard to know people.
By the time you hit breaks and stuff, people break into their own groups, and you're left stranded, god I was thinking what a loner I was!
Honours students tend to be nicer sometimes. By the time you hit 3rd year, its much better since you see the same faces, etc.
Another time I was stuck with a female student from the same class, bumped into each other at lunch. Yet after I've finished talking (and the same thing --> one worded answers), the girl is literally silent.
Its weird, I've never met someone who relies totally on you to talk about interesting subjects. I'll leave names off since soo many people seem to somehow know me.
