Gap year this year..if i do my five year course (which i don't think i can), i'll be 24/25. With three years 23 and four 24. And that's a full time load the whole time, so if i have a couple of semesters off, which i plan on doing, like 26. NOOOOOOO.

OK new decision: do a three year course.

so how long does it take before you can actually become a doctor (medical practitioner)? what degrees do you need?
It varies depending on what you want to specialise in, something like being a G.P is around 4 years I think, while something like Surgery is about 6 or 7 years. You need a B Medicine/B Surgery here in Australia to actually become a doctor, but also you have to go through training in a hospital before you can actually practice medicine privately.
more specifically:

medical school (5-6 yrs undergrad, 7 yrs postgrad including bachelor degree)
intern (1-2 yrs)
resident (1-3 yrs)
registrar in field of study (3-6 yrs depending on on speciality)

so minimum of ~10 years

I was 20 when I finished my first degree. And now another 3 years for another degree, so I'll be 23, and maybe post-grad, so older. I used to care about being young and a graduate, but it doesn't bother me much now!
