I was just messing around with SAM and put the following in:

Biology
Mathematics
English Advanced
Business Studies
SOR II
IPT

I made my mark 99 for all of them & Maths and Business scaled down to 97.2 & IPT doesn't count

But if i make my mark for all of them 50 i get the following:
Biology 6.4
Maths 15.4
English Advanced 6.6
Business Studies (doesn't count)
SOR II 5.0
IPT 8.8

It would be really helpful if anyone could explain why this happens or how it works?

Scaling is not a linear function. For each subject, how much scaling affects the marks will depend on which mark/mark range it is being applied to. For example, i know that modern scales lower than economics for most marks but scales much better when you reach the band 6 range.

So in your case, in the 50 mark range Business studies scales better than IPT but it's he other way around when the mark is 99 :)
