If i am ranked 5 out of 7 compared to a person at another school being 5 out of 15, how does the board work this out according to the marks?

but i dont get what many say, that even if you do better than the person ranked 1 they still keep the highest hsc exam mark? is this true?

yes because they're ranked first

you get two marks in the hsc

your own

and a moderated one depending on how well your class goes - where the highest person in your class gets the highest mark attained in your class

On the actual hsc results we get 2? And they only count the moderated ones towards the ATAR right?

When you get your HSC you will get three marks for each subject.

1. Your aligned HSC exam mark - the mark that you actually got on the exam
2. Your moderated internal assessment mark - the mark that comes from the school assessments and is based on your rank and the gaps between you and those around you along with the range of marks your cohort earned in the exam.
3. The average of these two marks.
