How do I write thoughts? (1 Viewer)

Ok, I've never been sure about this and it may sound really dumb, but how do I write thoughts?

Are they to be put in speech marks just like speech, or can they be left without speech marks?

Are we talking creative writing? If so, you can do it a number of ways - some authors do the quotation mark thing (often when writing in first person), whilst others simply state it, eg "Margery looked out of the window and wondered what time John would be home for dinner" or even "It was at that moment I realised that hey, this guy was an idiot!"
