Hey,
I am currently studying french continuers and have seen that my reading section scores are not as good as I would like it to be. I have been mainly losing marks for missing out key bits of information or misinterpreting the question. Is there a sort of structure I should aim to use for this section or is it moreso just wing it and spam information?
merci!!

A certain structure can help improve the quality of your response, but if you are losing marks because you are missing key bits of information or because you misinterpreted a question(s), then this may reflect insufficient practice and/or lower linguistic ability than ideal. This is because you could have a clear structure and still lose marks due to the same issues that you are currently facing. In other words, a good structure alone does not guarantee a good quality response.

Spamming information would, in most cases, mean that you are including all the information that is relevant to the question. However, spamming information will not always guarantee full marks. This is especially the case of questions that require longer, analytical responses. Here, you need high linguistic and analytical ability, which allow you to correctly interpret important/relevant bits of information (for example, quotes) in French, and analyse them according to the question(s) respectively.

While I personally did not adopt a particular structure for the Reading and Responding section, if I were to adopt one, I would probably focus on a structure similar to PEEL. If you would like to have a look at good-quality sample responses (native speaker, 95 HSC mark), my French Continuers trial exam answers are available in the Notes & Resources section.

J'espère que mes conseils t'aideront à t'améliorer ! Bonne continuation ! :D
