Hey, we just did that prac, i can email my prac report to ya. We ended with a fine result, of g = 9.87ms^-2, considering shitty school equipment.

I will need your email though....

Basically set it up swinging with a small deviation (ensuring it stays consant).

Measure the length of the string, and the time taken for 10 osscilations.

Repeat with different lengths of string.

Graph T^2 vs L, line of best fit.

Use the relationship:
T=2*pi*sqrt(L/g) to find g by the slope of T^2 verses L

At this stage remember the formula.

g= 4xpi squared divided by the slope for a graph of T squared versus l.

Turn upside down if you have l versus T squared. g=m/4 pi squared.

The angle doesn't have to remain constant. It just needs to be under 10 degrees all the time. People in my year (including me) got marked down in our prac test because we said it had to be constant...

The size of the angle doesn't matter (as the angle is not part of the equation, it won't effect your results). It just needs to be kept SMALL so that it remains in straight line pendulum motion rather than moving into an elliptical or circular orbit.

help

would you please send me a topic for an investigation. l really need one, if you could email it to me that would be great. the focus area is gravity. l am just havin a hard time of deciding on pendulum motion or projectile motion.....any ideas.

thanks

pendulums easier, but you need to deal with the T=2pi sqrt l/g crap...and draw a graph w/line of best fit.

Erros, air resistance, friction on the string and your "tired eye" syndrome :)
