Write about the way the text re-presents this information. In other words how it shows or depicts an event/person/whatever. Also, make specific reference to the affect this has upon it's audience.

For H+M specifically, you're going to want to talk about how this representation affects history and memory. Can our memories be affected by this view of this event? Can history be affected by this shift and therefore lose it's objectiveness? Was it ever really objective to begin with?

As you can see history and memory is hugely influenced by representation! But, and here's the clincher, representation is equally as influenced by history and memory. =\

It's the chicken and the egg ordeal all over again! =S

Eventually this will lead to questions of "Is history really objective and therefore 'real' if it is to be continually influenced by memory and it's various representations?"

And that is why mod c sucks lol. =P

this module of Advanced English focuses very heavily on the 'how'. This requires you to examine the way the texts have been written and the particular methods used by the composers to represent certain events - what influenced their decisions, why did they choose this particular representation. Some of the things you should look at closely may include (non-exhaustive):

• structure: fragmented, non-linear, or is it chronological and continuous -> why has the composer chosen this particular structure, what's he/she trying to say about H and M?
• multiple text types - multiple perspective? reliability of history and memory? need for the amalgamation of both?
• direct speech - bias? authenticity? need to add emotions into the otherwise clinical recordings of history?
• imaginative recreation - to present marginalised voices lost in the annals of history? does memory also fail in its capture of the past in this case?

in the end, you're supposed to have realised that although both are useful windows that provide glimpses into the past, neither history nor memory alone is sufficient or accurate enough to recount past experiences since both are prone to biases, inaccuracies and there are gaps and silences in both as well. The best option is to combine history and memory.
