Telling a story is a really dangerous trap, and I'm glad that you can identify that it's a nono.
An 'account' question, whilst wanting you to tell a story, really wants you to analyse the importance, influences, and factors in the narrative.
I've never studied this area, we need a Greek person... You'd probably look at the prologue to the battle; why there was a battle, who it involved, how it was won, what the significance of the battle was, different views, etc.
