The use of imagery “white flowers” conveys a double significance - flowers for celebrating and white for mourning. This is reflected in your said lines, where in giving the flowers to the departing soldier, the women who thought they were expressing support were actually garlanding them for the slaughter they would later on face.

IMO its a weak technique, it doesn't flow well with the flow of "the send off"- i'd focus more on the personficiation and sinister theme. Perhaps you can combine the flower metaphor with the sinister theme?
