Hey, i eventually want to do economics at a good uni if possible (either syd or UNSW, nice and local for me). However, im pretty sure im not gonna get the uai i need (low to mid 90s). I was looking at my other options and came across the social science course at UNSW, agricultural economics at Sydney, and arts at unsw. I will be looking to transfer into economics at unsw as early as possible if i can. Of these three courses which would be the best option for me? (Minai u might be able to help here).

- Agricultural economics looks interesting but i would rather be at unsw

- Social science looks good also and it would allow me to major in economics. But ive heard it is a fairly useless course for some reason

- Arts - im not sure if i can major in economics? and if i could what other subjects would i have to do. I like the social science subjects but im not a very 'arty' person.

Any help would be much appreciated

I was looking at Ag. Economics at Sydney a while back (but then realised how much I hated economics and moved away from that idea ;)) But by doing that you have an applied Economics degree and (apparently) more employable. You do common courses with Eco students, but also have more specialised and applied subjects as well. Also, class sizes are alot smaller than the mainstream Eco classes, which is always a good thing.

I reckon you should look into it. I looked (to me) extremley interesting and when you do graduate, you have some over the mainstream Eco kids because you did that extra year (which involves industry experience) in the Agricultural sector

So minai, would u recommend me doing a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of social science (keeping in mind that i ultimately want to transfer to eco). I noticed that i could major in economics with social science, and the course looked more interesting? what are your thoughts?

I'm not sure about the differences in these two courses, but im sure that in social science, u have to do 1 subjects in social science each semester, which shouldnt matter anyway since u want to transfer to Economics. Have a look at the Virtual Handbook on the UNSW site
