You know this forum is very very quiet!

Ancient is a buzz
Extention is quite busy
but Modern is quiet

i thought Modern would be the harder of the histories

at least someone talk about WW1
or Even Russia 1917-1945
or if you have to the Arab-Israeli conflict 1948-1996??

Cmon people the HSC is not that far away!

wow that arab- israeli conflict sure lasted a while..................

ohh look a thumbleweed just went past
lol i agree with that
and yet it is one of the most relevant issues in the syllabus
as this conflict continues and to some commentatiors increases in its intensity

I hate the Arab-Israeli Conflict, it's my least favourite out of the three topics (I do WWI, Germany and A-I Conflict) ...

First thing, start with the debates on modernisation that occured in the time when stalin was arguing with trotsky over issues which divided the party

look at it under the headings of:

economic development - industrialisation and the peasantry problem
so here u would look at War Communism, the initial economic reforms (restore land to the peasantry), NEP, collectivisation, five year plans, and how the economy was used in the war

Political development
Intitial political reforms - abolition of secret police, introduction of communist ideology etc
War Communism - had to deal with opposition, became more militarised etc
NEP - retreat in more ways than one...back to the ideals of the revolution
one point..here is where the debates went on so...u have to consider the impact on that
Rise of Stalin and his consolidation of power
The Terror and purges
totalitarian society

u can also look at this from a social, military basically all aspects of soviet society
but u have to limit your essay to the bare essentials because it is a massive question
