well chord's in music are inevitably going to be similar. crappy pop/rock bands and some crap punk bands like simple plan use standard rock chord progressions. many many many songs in this genre sounds incredibly similar as a result.

melodies on the other hand, are much more defined and individual, and can make a song similar to the point of being suspicious.

i wonder if nickelback could be sued for releasing effectively the same song again and again. and again and again. seriously, evey nickelback song sounds the same.

This is soooo disappointing to hear about. I don't think they're that similar .. i mean the whole world writes music with the same set of notes, it's just coincidence ..
If Coldplay isn't "guilty" then this has just stuffed up the song for everyone
well it has for me
