metallica - orion and to live is to die
death - voice of the soul.
ahhhh, all the way reading through this thread I was thinking of jason becker. Great music... I really like "serrana" (thats spelt wrong, I can't quite remember).

I have so many favorite solos. Almost anything by "Yes". Jimi Hendrix of course, "land of the new rising sun" and almost everything else.... all the virtuso soloists... eric johnson is a particular favorite. ach, really can't choose, I'll have to mull this one over...

My favourite Led Zeppelin solo is Achilles Last Stand
Something else I rate is the Nightrain solo as played by Bumblefoot and Buckethead
Some good shredding there

There answer to all your questions lie within:

http://guitar.about.com/library/bl100greatest.htm

While this may not be the newest survey, I agree with it pretty much 100%. There's some awesome stuff in here.

As for myself, I don't see who anyone can overlook Metallica - Dyers Eve. And of there's there's Comfortably Numb, Nightrain, Stairway, Highway Star and Fade to Black as some of my other favouites.

Whatever the greatest solo ever may be, I think we should all agree that without stuff like this around, we'd probably all be gay... or Mexican.
