I'll be in my second last year of high school next year, studying 3 units of maths. Does a graphics calculator help much at all? If so, what is the best brand to buy?

I'm doing Pure maths 1 and 2 and Specialist maths, I'm not in NSW or Vic.

You'll have to tell us where you live or what certificate you do.

The HSC doesn't use graphics calculators. The VCE does. The ACT I'm not sure about.

If you're allowed to use it in a test, grab a Ti 83/84. Pretty stock standard graphics calculator.

davidbarnes, please seek advice on this matter elsewhere. None of us have experience with the SA certificate and cannot advise you regarding calculators. I suggest you ask your teacher.

Is a Casio Colour Graphic Calculator CFX-9850GB any good? Can it run programs?

The Graphic Calculators are very handy however they do take alot of getting use to.

Does anyone know of any sites that gives you some guidelines/lessons on the graphic calculator..

Thanks

Graphics calculators are a gimmicky toy invented by calculator companies to rip of high school kiddies.

No mathematician, scientist or engineer ever uses one.

Consequently, unless you need this thing for your high school course, I wouldn't bother buying it, and I wouldn't bother wasting time trying to learn how to use it.

BTW, I was looking at the ACT senior highs school maths syllabus the other day, and I think they do use them in the ACT.

As for sites about how to use them, why don't you try CASIO and TI themselves.
