Does anybody know whats the name of this curve and an equation for it? And also, how many stationary points does it have, 2 or 4?

looks like an extension-1 graph in the form nx/(x2 + m)
2x/(x2 + 1) ?
there are two stationary points; max and min

I don't know the name of it but it has 2 stationary points, one at the max and one at the min. of the curve.

there is also a point of inflexion at 0,0 where it changes concavity

Looks kinda like a slightly different Cubic curve to me.

When in doubt, create your own functions :)

Eg.

y = x3/ex for x >= 0 and y = x3ex for x < 0

wouldnt happen to be a sin curve. not sure because i suck at maths but looks similar to the curve on my mathaid

The middle bit does look a bit like the sine curve, BUT after the stat points the curve approaches the y-axis and gets infinitely close to it and never touches it. The sine curve is pretty much a wave that repeats and cuts y-axis an infinite number of times.

Its known as The Serpentine Curve.

Standard equation would be:

Y = x / (1 + x^2)

Or something like that.


Oh I differentiated it to try and find stationary points. There are two. And...the points of inflexions look too difficult to find (the second derivative is sooo complicated).
