hey guys...

just wondering if u know of any good texts that develop the conventions of the sci-fi or fantasy genre really well

sci-fi texts preferred ... but any thing would be great! ^-^

umm... I am not so sure of the conventions for sci-fi but here are some suggestions

1984? sorta
The time machine?
Star Trek novels?
The X Files <-- that's the first I can think of when you say sci-fi

hurm, here goes:

Dune (kinda)
Star Trek
Peter F Hamilton (this is what your looking for, trust me)
Foundation series (Isaac Asimov)

That should be more than enough. I really recommend Hamilton. Apart from the fact that his books are awesome, the technology present in his books are astonishing. Oh, that reminds me, Iain M Banks. In Banks' books, the theory is this: If humans keep advancing at the rate that they are advancing now, then in 10000 years time humans will have technology present in the books. Trust me, your jaw will drop open, thats how advanced the technology is.

Anyways, id better get on with proposal now. :D
