For an essay in our module,

should we have an equal focus on genre and our elective (revenge tragedy in my case) ?

or more on our elective?

IMO there isn't really a line you can draw like that - you simply examine the genre via your elective. For instance if they asked me something like "is genre a discrete modality?" I would use reference to the Crime Fic(or Revenge or Spec) genre and conventions etc. to prove it is/isn't
