Yeh it's stupid. I only know because I had to get insurance when I got my P's. Otherwise I'd have no clue.... Did anyone else catch the trick btw with the bicycle/bus is cheap?
It's 2L, 34km ONE WAY, she then has to go back home another 2L,30km so the bicycle was like $30.40 cheaper
i read that question 3 times and i swear it only asked to the university, not both ways

There was no trick, it specified that it was just to the university. With these "Which is cheaper version" the answer is always relatively small. It would never be 30.40

But overall i thought it was a pretty good exam. I know of about 5 or so marks that i've lost but other than that i feel pretty good about getting a high B5 or possibly B6

No one goes to uni and dosent go back. The bus takes you both ways. I'm pretty sure there was a trick to it because they wanted you to find what was the cheaper option. And it would make sense since the bike is cheaper one way but not two ways and they can catch a lot of people out for 2 marks I think it was

I can't remember the exact wording of the question but it just doesn't make sense for it too be both ways. There is no way the answer would be that the bus is $30 cheaper, its never that simple. These kind of questions are always within a dollar or two

The question was on the lines of the Guy wants to find what is a cheaper option. The bike ride TO the university is 17km and costs this much per litre etc. The bus for 10 trips costs this time ---.
17km to uni = 34km both ways = 340km for 10 trips and at the price of fuel you calculate it. Why would he travel only to uni. It doesn't specify anywhere to calculate it for just one way to uni but what is overall cheaper option per 10 trips. It might be poor wording but there's no reason why there can't be a big difference more than a few dollars.

Also while I'm on here the formula for the graph you had to find about the cost/number of people
Was the formula C=120 000/n

I got the actual question here... I misread it...

Xuso is comparing the cost of two different ways of travelling

Xuso's motorcycle uses one litre of fuel for every 17km travelled. The cost of fuel is $1.67/L and the distance from her home to the university carpark is 34km. The cost of travelling by bus is $36.40 for 10 single trips.


I completely misread the "from her home to the university carpark is 34km".

$6.68 x 10 = $66.80-

I think this is wrong as well. Although the motorcycle (that's what i assume you mean by car) is in fact cheaper, the calculations aren't correct.

It's not asking which is cheaper for 10 trips so it should be:

1.67 x 2= 3.34
36.40/10= 3.64

So therefore it is 30c cheaper to travel by motorcycle
