Hi guys,

I'm a poker addict, and I play in the casino about 4-5 nights a week.
I been building up my "bankroll" (money to play poker with) and atm I've got about 2500$.

Heres the problem- My parents have no idea I gamble. (at least i think). If they found out they'd be furious. But I certainly don't like walkin around all day with 2500 in my wallet, so what do I do?

I'm a bit concerned if i hide it in the house somewhere they may find it =/
And if i put it in a savings account, they have to mail u something every now and then (I live at home).

thoughts?

spend the 2500 on something thats worth it. like a new tv or something. if they asked where u got the money just say u saved it up. i used to have a problem with pokies but now i either put it in my netbank account or i spend the money on something worthwhile. also, i leave my keycard at home if im going to a venue where there is pokies. take all precautions otherwise its going to end up straight back on the poker table.

Why wouldn't you be allowed to have a savings account and secondly why would your parents open a bank statement addressed to you?

Poker is a game of skill, I'd hardly call it gambling. If you've made $2500 I'd say you're pretty decent and should keep at it...

As for storing the money, a bank account is the most secure option. You could hire a Post Office Box to have the statements sent to if you're really worried about your parents opening your mail.

At the stakes Star is offering 2500 is pretty moderate. If you think you are good enough to win at poker then do it. Dumsum is right it is a game of skill.

Open up a savings account and put most of it in, but keep however much you need for a trip to Star City (I'm assuming you still want to play) somewhere in your room. If you lose it you can always withdraw some more, or if you keep gaining money just keep depositing. I keep most of mine online because Star City is shit and if the players weren't so bad I'd never go again.
If your parents think poker is just gambling don't try to explain to them otherwise, it'll just lead to a lot of stupid questions and it's really hard for you to explain it in a way that makes it seem like it's all skill. Trust me, I've tried. Unless you win a huge tournament sometime soon, it's going to be hard to convince them that you won't lose it all at some point

Not looking to spend the money, looking to make more til I have a proper bankroll to play higher stakes. Thanks though.

Thanks- I didn't consider this. I can just go to the post office and request this kinda thing? What would it cost roughly?

From http://www.auspost.com.au/BCP/0,1467,CH4150%7EMO19,00.html ...

Standard small box is $75/year... or $21/year "Reduced Rate" which "applies only when normal frequency of mail delivery is less than twice weekly", which is probably your case--just have a chat to your local post office to see if you're eligible.

That isn't too bad, considering I'll barely ever be receiving mail. Thanks again for the help man, much appreciated.
