Hi,

I am thinking of going for some jobs as sales assistant and the like at retail shops such as roger david etc.

I am wondering if anyone knows what the full time rate for a 19 year old is? I looked at the Shop Employees award in NSW, (i am in ACT though) and it said $420/weekly for junior shop assistant 19y.o. Is this normal or excessively low?? It works out to be about 10.50 an hour.

which would equate to a salary of $21,000pa for fulltime work.

That does sound a bit low, but then again, I'm comparing it to casual hourly rates for the same age. The hourly rate for a full time person is going to be lower than a casual, remember, because you should be getting all the benefits that come with being full time.

How many hours is that per week? Would it still be the same amount if you worked more hours? How much is overtime?

Was looking at the wages sheet at Dick Smith, just yesterday - 19yo's get about that much at DSE, too..
