Hey Guys I was just wondering if anyone out there could explain what the Mass Spectrometer does and why it is soo important to Forensic Chemistry

importance - one reason is that it identifies very small particles

mass pectrometers analyse the surface of samples and create a 3D image of the surface and can detect and identify specific components of the sample, i.e. it can detect the particular type of paint used on a car/ painting (oil, water, etc...) which makes it more accurate and thus more useful for the forensic chemist.
