And how do you gauge that opinion? Just because of his mainstream success? Jeff Buckley and James Blunt are incomparable because they're from different periods, different backgrounds and ultimately different styles. Speaking of José, he's not THAT great...
ok, so dont compare them to eachother, compare how they perform within their own contexts. jeff was ground-breaking. his music is beautiful, its stirring. his lyrics are sordid and spun with meaning.

there's nothing unusual about james blunt. the composition of his sound is mundane and ordinary. i find his voice highly irritating. i know thats personal opinion, but looking at the musical components of his music.. it's not exactly groundbreaking stuff. and many of his songs are very similar. whilst i know im kinda shooting myself in the foot to use examples from two of his most commercialised songs, but listen to the choruses of "you're beautiful" and "goodbye my lover" and the musical structure of the two in terms of melodic phrasing is almost identical, just in different keys.

As you were saying, it's all down to personal opinion.

or even, in this case, how well you can analyse the components of a piece of music :p
"His sound is mundane and ordinary; I find his voice highly irritating; not exactly groundbreaking stuff because of identical melodies, albeit different keys.; many of his songs are similar."

Groundbreaking analysis there. Just joking. I understand how James Blunt can be seen as your average run-of-the-mill singer/songwriter, capitalising on the two major tunes that people enjoy and eschewing any real beauty or originality in his work, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying it. But I can say the same for Jack Johnson after hearing Taylor. It's just how they work. Perhaps, if Buckley lived a little longer, we would have heard more albums with the same sound, style and musicianship.

My favourite albums are Planet Shining and Beat Space Nine, the first with Lisa and the second without. so, both I guess, I can't decide. How about you?

You should try Emilie Simon's new album then (Vegetal), I thought it was much better than Le Fil

And here's a list:
Fiery Furnaces
Olivia Tremor Control
Fad Gadget
Coil
Devo
T. Rex
Belle & Sebastian
5.6.7.8's
Deerhoof
My Bloody Valentine
Melt-Banana
Air
Xiu Xiu
Jesus and Mary Chain
Shpongle
Pere Ubu

etc etc
Bloody awesome. I love Pere Ubu's "The Modern Dance", it's my 3rd favourite album. Dusk at Cubist Castle and Psychocandy I also enjoy.

BRMC, The Verve, and The Music.

Edit: Haven't heard this anywhere else, but according to NME Richard Ashcroft was arrested a few days ago for, bizaarely, "bursting into a youth club and asking to work with the teenagers present".

they didn't sell out  a friend of mine bought them on the day of the concert. they were fucking amazing live though.

and Atreyu fucking suck. can i quote the "masterful" lyrics of "Bleeding Mascara"
"Look how pretty she is, when she falls down.
Now there’s no beauty in bleeding mascara. lips are quivering
like a withering rose, she’s back again.
"

real great lyrics there. :uhhuh:

Dammit...I was told that the Sydney show was sold out...fuck I was screwed!!

haha..yeah they're not the best lyrics in the world..but hey there are worse lyrics. Anyhow...I'm in shock..since when did Paris Hilton sing? Holy fuck.. the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse are coming anyday now... Seriously, she sings or did she just record all the moaning from her sex video?
