we have an assessment for our third case study which is based on exhibitions and the intentions of the curator and stuff. however, i'm having a really hard time trying to find information on the exhibitions, so if anyone has any info on these exhibitions, anything at all, can you please help me?!

they are: international exposition of surrealism, paris 1938
salon de refuses (1861)
sensation exhibition at brooklyn museum, 1999
the armoury show, 1913
bonnard observing nature, 2003

anything to do with the exhibition would be a great help. thanks!

try and get a hold of the senation catalog, if you can. there's some good stuff in there... try local library perhaps?

also try here:
http://www.renewal.org.au/artcrime/pages/c_ofili.html
(artcrime is a really good website for controversial modern art)
and maybe here too:
http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/org/phoenix/1999/1999-10-07/opinions/museum.html

there's a fair bit about it on the internet -- try looking for "sensation exhibition brooklyn museum" on google, etc etc. i think the main point is that after such a controversial opening in brooklyn, there were threats to cut the funding to the museum... :(

(as a side note, sensation was due to tour to the NGA a few years back, but it was stopped on the grounds that it was too controversial/offensive
