Ethnocentric - a business favours the appointment of home country nationals at higher-level positions. This is often becuz directors & executives feel more comfortable with ppl similar to themselves.

polycentric - preferences is given to host country nationals in filling managerial positions. This is based on local managers:
- having a better knowledge of markets
- having good networks in govt & industry

geocentric - the business attempts to employ the best ppl for the job, regardless of nationality. Global managers, with experience in two or more business locations, are often highly sought after.

**These definitions are straight from the macquarie revision guide for business studies**

Hope that helps you ??

you got ethno right, but geo and poly are the other way around.

geocentric is employing the best people for the job regardless of their nationality

polycentric - is employing people for the host country

many texts say differnt things, I rang the BOS and they said that as long as you explain what you mean that is fine. They have not sent out a directive saying what each mean.

I believe when you think about the meaning of the words:

Poly- best person for the job
Geo- From the home country (hiring Asian managers)
Ethno - overseas managers (Aust going to Asia)

I can't see them asking a m/c qu on it

I had a really good way of remembering this. At least it worked for me.

Geo - world context. The person can be from anywhere in the world.

Poly - poly = one. The person was from one's own country.

Ethno - ethnic = foreign. The person is from a foreign country.

That worked well for me.

Sorry, you're right. It's 1:00, I'm not thinking right. Mono means one, doesn't it. I know that, because polytheism means many gods, and monotheism means one god.

Well Geo and Ethno must have been the ones I followed, I'll double check my notes (Macquarie Excel guide), as I mustn't have followed what I said about poly, as I knew that.

Sorry, I'm not making any sense. Sometimes my mind goes completely AWOL. IN confuse myself.

According to my text book the information you seek is as g=follows:

Ethno = Home country
Poly = Host Country
Geo = Best qualified regardless of Nationality
