hi, im about to start ext2 next term and i want to be prepared with some proposals or something but im not sure what i should really write about. my form will either be a critical or short story (im stronger in critical so im leaning towards that right now even though i think it'd be more fun to write imaginatively).
if anyone had any ideas they didnt end up using for their own mw or other sources of inspiration that you could recommended i would really appreciate it. tysm!!
The first message I ever posted on this website, was venting about my EE2 choices (
see here to see the og thread). So I feel qualified to talk about this. Similar to what
@qweeosh said, pick a form (and concept) that INTERESTS YOU. I promise you, if you choose something that you have 0 interest in, your motivation will slowly erode away (as did mine) and you will find yourself completely not able to even work on your project. I ended up dropping because I changed my form (Short film --> Creative Non-fiction), and Concept (landed with political satire). And was left working on a major work that wasn't meaningful to me.
With that being said, and in contrast to what Jane mentioned, for extension 2 (which I'm assuming you've been told), you really can't just pick a topic (or storyline) for the sake of it. You need to have a level of complexity. I personally think it's always a good idea to go down the route of language. Given that its an english piece. If I could go back (and wasn't allowed to do my OG short film option), I'd look at the correlation between thought and language, and how when language is eroded away, so is the capacity for critical thought. Obv you'd need to extend on that idea though, since it's the theme of many popular books (1984, Animal farm).
But the scope of 'language is huge', and you don't have to do something adjacent by any means. Because I was doing a video, I watched many exemplars on youtube, and some of them were copies of blackmirror episodes (even the twists / endings). So I don't know where I'm going with this. But TLDR, make sure you are invested in whatever you pick.
