What is the duration of the ATP/CP and alactacid energy systems? All the information I have is conflicting :(

Do you remember your first lesson of yr11 PDHPE - health is dynamic. in fact PE is dynamic. the info gets updated so frequently thru research that what we learn is generally already obsolete when theyre teaching it, for example the way they teach the lactic acid system is completely wrong (lactic acid actually acts as an energy source??? but lets not go there)

In general terms the ATP-PC system:
10-12seconds of 90%-100% MHR (intensity)
20secs-2mins for complete resynthesis.

(Outcomes 2 textbook) but basically stick with ur textbook's info, that what theyve taught u so that all they can examine u on

ATP-PC system:
1-10 seconds of energy provided - short bursts of maximum intensity.

Lactic Acid system:
10-30 seconds of energy - intense bursts of energy. (some sources say up to 2 minutes for this system)

this is the info that i have, though various different sources do range by a few seconds, if you go generally by what is above, you will be fine :)

I disagree with it being 1-10 seconds. If the action only took 1-2 seconds creatine phosphate would not be used. The residual levels of ATP would be used.

- atp/pc lasts for 1-10 seconds (shotput, javelin, 100m run)
- lactic acid lasts 30 seconds to 2 minutes @ 95%, 30mins @ 60% (100m swim)
- aerobic system doesn't kick in till 3 minutes as thats how long it takes for oxygen to reach the working muscles. (marathon, triathlon)

- atp = max effort
- lactic acid = 60-95%
- aerobic = up to 60% max effort

the aerobic system is the most efficient system as it can last for ages(no limit @ low intensity). the atp/pc and lactic acid systems do not run from oxygen.

-atp pc uses creatine phosphate for its fuel.
-actic acid uses muscle glycogen
-aerobic uses oxygen

-there is no waste product for atp/pc
-waste product for lactic acid system, is lactic acid build up in the muscles (which causes fatigue)
-carbon dioxide, water waste products for aerobic system

- atp/pc recovery time = 2minutes
- lactic acid = 20mins to 2 hours depending on intensity
- aerobic = 24hours

the body systems run off carbohydrates(glycogen), fat then protein as a last resort for its energy.

sorry if i wrote alot, this is kind of my study aswell by recalling what i know and writing it down, hope it helps you.

Only ATP-PC system uses creatine, the lactic acid system uses glycogen.

as oxygen is replenished i dont think there is a waste product for oxygen system from memory.
H2O and C2O are the by-products for the aerobic system
