so does anyone have any clue on how companies can detect employees excessive personal use of e-mail, other than by reading it?

The only thing i found is that companies should implement policies and stuff to limit the usage of e-mail.
some companies use monitoring software where they read all of their employees e-mail, but i guess that doesnt help much

any other ideas anyone?
