Interesting theory i was thinking before.

I dislike macs, but i hear they have really good/reliable processors.

Do you reckon its a cost effective idea to buy a dual boot mac (with education discount etc) - then load XP onto it and just run it like a PC?

Would i get any software conflicts? (ill assume all software would run as an XP)
And would i never have to touch the mac os ever?
Thoughts.

if you don't want to buy a mac and dual boot it with XP

then buy a laptop with XP and dual boot it with OS X

Actually macs are a bit expensive than their regular PC counterparts so for the same price you're likely to get a slower mac. However if you're buying from Dell or another computer manufacturer rather than building your own PC the difference is negligible.

Well, pick an operating system, which one do you want to use?

It's silly to get a Mac just so you can run XP on it, if you have no use for OSX then just get a PC

fatmuscle: err, I thought it's impossible to run OSX on a PC?

The OS X on a PC version (OSx86) is hacked together and doesn't work too well.

The whole point of the macs are that they use OS X... just install windows inside OS X in a VM and use whatever small number of apps you can't get an equivalent for on OS X in there, works a charm.

Meh.
Hey I want to play counter-strike.
