The other one i have seen is NH4+ + MnO2(s) + H2O(l) + e- -----> Mn(OH)3(aq) + NH3(aq)

Yeah I know, I used to go with that one, but it looks to messed up. The one I posted is Xayma's and he knows what he is talking about

It is MnO2+2NH4++2e-  _______> MnO+2NH3+H2O

Use the one I posted in this thread, that one is wrong and I had a wrong one in my chem summary (The one above I must of mistyped) if you notice the Oxygen atoms dont balance out in the other one, the latter one does.

Xayma, that should be 2MnO - ie 2 x manganese(II) oxide, not Mn2O2, which would be manganese(II) peroxide.

Fixed, my source was wrong.

Which means you can now take out a factor of 2.

MnO2 + 2NH4+ + 2e- ----> MnO + 2NH3 + H2O

Is that what we have now?

Yes.

Bah CM_Tutor you ruined my plan to give out false information so others do worse in chem so its scaling goes up for me :p, well it was considered.

What is your PhD on anyway?
