Yeah I want to take mine sometime this week.

Who else doesn't have their L's?

- Do you have to have an adult with you?
- Can you just rock up and do it, or do you need to pre-book?
- What type of ID is sufficient?
- It says you need to fill in a License Application, will that be available at the RTA?

And for the driving: Is it better to start off with:
* automatic then learn manual?
* or the other way round?

- It says you need to fill in a License Application, will that be available at the RTA? Yes, you need to fill in a license application form, which is available at the RTA. You'll need to take your ID, app form & your booking form the day you do the test.

I'd say start with auto first But it's different for everyone.

LOL 4 times. A lot of the questions i got on the day, were ones that i had done several times on the prac test

In the first 15 questions you can get only 4 wrong
In the remaining 30 - you can get only 1 wrong. -- Get two wrong here, even though everything else is correct and its an instant fail.

Practice the online test & read the book a few times. Seriously, its easy.

Read the list of questions they can ask you.
It's downloadable from the RTA website.
It's in multiple choice format, giving you the question and list of answers - correct answer in bold.

I read it once and passed first go.

As for the ID, I brought everything.. the first time I went I didnt bring enough identification so I had to reschedule.. so the second time I brought my birth cert, passport, medicare cards, student cards, EVERYTHING so they don't have an excuse to say I don't have enough details.

If you start with auto, once you go on your greens you can drive either anyway.. but it depends on your family, will they be buying you your own car? Can the other family members drive manual?
It's not that hard of a decision..

Nope, but I think they need to sign something on your application form.

I just turned up and done mine, but then again I'm not in Sydney. It seems the Sydney RTAs like you booking.

It says on the Application form, but I had school ID car, report, birth certificate and medicare card I believe.

Yep get it from the RTA, probably have it filled out before you go.

Really depends on your situation. But probably better to start off in manual then go to auto. So you learn it all at once, but really depends on you, your situation and your teacher.

I don't have my L's yet.
I have studied for it on and off numerous times, but i'm too pathetic to even try just yet because i do not want to loose my forty dollars... hahaha
I hate failing, better study more...

Stop in the middle of the railway tracks and look both ways for approaching trains.


Slow down and be prepared to stop if the lights start flashing, warning you of an approaching train.

I had no idea anyone could be that stupid.

Just do practice tests on the website. Easy. Got 100% and didn't study much for it at all. You'll do fine.

There was at least one street racing question in it (which is definetely something not everyone would know about)

There was also an iffy question about streets with no speed limits / street lamps (cant remember which)

Other than that the questions are easy.

Chase the car to tell the driver how to drive.


Stay calm and in control of your vehicle at all times.


Respond by using your horn and/or flashing your lights, to let the driver know how you feel.


Clearly the bolded answers are the ones most of us do/would do. amirite?

I've never got less than 100%. I once did it at 8am, to get my motorcycle Ls, and I was hungover and got 100%. It's so easy I think you should have to get 100% before you're allowed on the road. Also you need ID linking your face to your name and your name to your address so passport and a letter from your bank or something. If you don't have a passport I think a birth certificate will suffice. Check on the RTA website, there's a list.

Start with manual, then when you drive an auto you'll realise how unbelievable shit it is, and will forever stick with manual thus making you a better and safer driver

I think manual drivers will agree but you get used to changing gears after awhile and it does bother you. But then you go to automatic it can almost seem a little boring just accelerate and break but then again it can be a nice change at times.
