you’re currently in Year 7, 8, 9 or 10 and want to go to a better-ranked High School and a more academically challenging environment this is for you. Whether you sat the Year 6 Selective test and didn't get the result you wanted, or you never sat it at all and are now realising you want a more challenging environment, I’ve been exactly where you are.

While everyone else is waiting for Year 12 to "start trying," the top students are already in environments that will improve and protect their ATAR.

The Reality of the "Selective Safety Net": Let’s be real, the school you go to does impact your ATAR. While you can succeed anywhere, being in a Selective school provides a massive "Safety Net." When you’re surrounded by a high-performing cohort, the overall school rank pushes everyone's internal marks up. If you have a bad day during an exam, a strong cohort can literally save your final mark.

Why this makes the difference for Uni offers: If you are aiming for highly competitive degrees, like Medicine, Law, or Actuarial Studies, even a 0.50 point difference in your ATAR can be a big deciding factor.

Hear from someone who has been through this exact process and fought their way through it.

Ilia's journey from 156/300 to 99.90 ATAR and UNSW Medicine
  • Year 6: I failed the selective test with a 156/300 (well below the average).
  • Year 7–9: Attended my local high school and focused on building better study habits.
  • Year 10: Successfully transferred into North Sydney Boys.
  • Year 11/12: Duxed Year 11 and graduated with a 99.90 ATAR.
  • Now: Studying Medicine at UNSW.
If you want to hear more of the "raw" version of Ilia's journey from Year 4 to Med school, I recorded a video on it here:
