i'd like to pick your collective brains for a minute....

i was given an assessment due in a little while in which we were meant to write a speech, given the focus:

It is more important for success to follow the conventions of a crime fiction sub-genre than to consciously create a piece of literature

now i have a vague idea what it might be getting at, but other than that, the question and me arent on the same page. thoughts, anyone?

I'm guessing here... I think it's asking you to discuss whether a crime fiction text is more successful/appealing if it follows the conventions of that context or if it defies/questions the conventions. Personally, I find something like The Real Inspector Hound to be more appealing/successful because it satirises the genre and therefore questions the conventions (well the normal conventions are too obvious in the text, showing that it is a parody and therefore in a way questions the conventions of crime fiction).
