Hey,
I'm studying SFOC, TRIH and The Big Sleep and my main concern is with the big sleep. I recently went to a study day on the CF genre and was petrified by the amount of technical knowledge some people had on the TBS. I was wondering if you could help me out with a couple of pointers on how to combine technical stuff with the CF genre.
Thanks :)

hmm... im doin the same texts, and i sure hope i can help!!

well, as u'd know, what ur trying to do in a CF essay is letting the markers know that a) you know the conventions of the genre and its subgenres,
b) you can give examples of these, and
c) you can describe, using examples, how the composer has included these conventions - that is, what shows you that TBS is a Hard Boiled Detective text? how has Hawks portrayed Marlowe as the 'typical' PI? how does Hawks buid tension? what does he use to create suspense? how are red herrings brought up? what features does hawks use to encourage you to believe them?
and other q's like that...

i hope this has been helpful!! at least, it might get you thinking, maybe give you a new perspective that you didnt think of before..

all the best!!
