There's actually a few ways to do this:

- Get Winamp (any version 2.x from http://classic.winamp.com), and download & install the "Tara" plugin for it (you can find it on the same website, under "input plugins"). You need this plugin to play real audio. Next open the streaming real audio location you want to record in Winamp, and choose the "Lame MP3 Writer" output plugin (I think the latest few versions of Winamp 2.x have it, if your version of Winamp doesn't have it then you can download it here: http://mukoli.free.fr/out_lame/ (make sure you don't have Winamp "repeat" button on). Then Winamp will download the real audio from the Internet location, and output it to a MP3 file.

- Get the program Tinra from here: http://www.geocities.com/tinra04/ Then you can use this program to convert a real audio stream off the internet into a WAV file. Then you can use a WAV to MP3 converter (e.g. Music Match Jukebox, Nero Burning Rom) to convert this into MP3. If you download Tinra, don't forget to download it's GUI. This is because Tinra is a command line (DOS prompt) program, and getting the Tinra GUI will make it easier to use. You can get the Tinra GUI here: http://guiguy.wminds.com/downloads/tinragui/

- There's another program called real7ime which is like Tinra (convert real audio -> WAV). Google it it if you're interested.

- Use sound recorder (or another audio program) to record the streaming ram file as you play it.

try this site if wogboy's solutions dont work,
this is one i've come across:

http://www.allformp3.com/sound_editor/smr.htm

this one one app that is able to convert it,
free download at:

http://www.desktoper.com/allformp3/all4smr250.zip

quote from another user " You have to turn the microphone volume off all the way though or else it distorts the sound. "

:)

if those sites dont work, try
http://www.audio-mp3-recorder.com
and download "Super MP3 Recorder Pro" (same app as the above link). available at:

http://www.audio-mp3-recorder.com/download/all4smr250.exe

having said that though, take a look at this website, it explains why you *shouldnt* convert ram to wav, or ram to mp3.

a little messy, but you'll be able to read it:

i might ask a small q here, if i am viewing a streaming video using media player, which is 'embedded' into the browser, is there a way that i can save that file to my disk?

if you know the url, it should be cached on your disk and you'll be able to find the filename using search functions after the movie/clip is over/finished.

but if it's playing, then you're constantly downloading and waiting for it to 'finish' streaming before you can download it. if it's live, then i doubt it. but if it's off a site, and you're viewing it in your browser, have you checked the file->save as option?

if not, you could always view the source, find out the filename (see above) or right click the video-window, see if there are any options there? right clicking and finding save-options?

also, if its a wmv, etc then you should be able to 'save target as..' on rightclicking. if it isnt wmv, (avi etc) and if it's a WVX, then you'll have trouble. since it is a windows media audio/video shortcut stored on the site's server, (not viewed locally as such).

im not too sure about this Q, but normally i save the url and download the entire clip, so that im able to watch it after, instead of having to re-download the same video file from the web :)

i think that might work, should have known that. i have used that b4.

i cant "save as" by clicking on the video window.

might try the first option and if that doesnt work, try the file>save as option.

view - source (or right click - view source)

ctrl + f - ".asf" (or wotever filename it is)

copy the address of the media file

make sure it is the full url ... (eg : http://www.yahoo.com/video.mpg)
not just "video.mpg" or wotever

if its not the whole link then ... copy the filename part... paste it into the directory where the webpage is stored .. and yeah...

then either :
can go to notepad - new file
type "<a href="address here"> Link</a>"
file-save as - link.html (make sure the thing on the bottom says "all files" instead of "text documents"

then open the webpage u made.. right click on the link - save as

or

an easy way is just copying the address of the media file
go to "address" bar -
type "about:<a href="location here">Link</a>"

and yeah... enter... then right click on "link" - save as

that's another option i think u can try... i dunno

its a long way of doing it... i dunno ne other way T_T

Whoops, sorry my first post wasn't completely accurate. :(

Actually, you can use Tinra to download real audio as well as video, but it's just that it will output it to an AVI file (with no video component) rather than a WAV file (my version of it anyway, which is 0.03, don't know if it has changed in the most recent version 0.05).

You have to convert it to a WAV file using a program called avi2wav, and then convert it to MP3 or whatever other format you want it in using another program. You can download avi2wav here:

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Way/9629/avi2wav.htm

I personally prefer to use Winamp to do it (see the first tip in my previous post), since you can convert it from real audio to MP3 format straight away, quite easily. I usually use Tinra to save real video streams rather than real audio streams.

In Winamp, click the top left button and go to Play -> Location, and then enter the URL of the streaming audio you want to download.

also what about .rm format, where its just real media format saved onto ya computer???
Go to Options -> Plugins, then find the "Lame MP3 Writer" plugin, which should be under the output plugins category. Click on it and then click the "configure" button. Then you will be able to choose which folder to output the MP3 file, and a whole lot of other options (regarding bitrate, quality etc). When you finish configuring it and click OK, make sure that the "Lame MP3 Writer" plugin is selected (not another output plugin) then you can click "close" on the Winamp plugin config box. The plugin that is highlighted is the activated one. So anything & everything you play via Winamp will be output to the MP3 file. To change it back (so that whatever you play in Winamp plays to your speakers and not to an MP3 file), select the "Directsound" or "WaveOut" output plugin.

also i want to know how to crop mp3's... u know i got this one large file with all different songs in it but i wanna know how to break each tracks/songs up into different files???
Probably the best way to do this is to use an audio editor of your choice (such as Audacity, Goldwave, Cooledit, Nero Wave Editor etc) to split the MP3 files as you wish and re-save them after being split.
