Hi, I'm thinking of Civil Engineering as a future course, and I was initially very interested by UNSW's course, but after comparisons with USYD, I saw that USYD's UAI Cutoff for the specialised courses (92 or so) was much higher than that of UNSW (80 or so). Seeing as the cutoffs are purely supply and demand, I was wondering whether the lower UAI is because UNSW's civil course is inferior to USYD? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UAI cut offs do not reflect course quality or difficulty.

USyd and UNSW are both good for civil engineering. I wouldn't make my decision on the basis of the UAI cutoff. USyd's generalist CivEng degree has a lower cutoff anyway.

Have a good look at the structure of both courses, consider what area you think you want to get into after you graduate, consider the campus, travel time etc.

In my opinion UNSW is better because of the traffic engineering courses on offer, however you need to have a good look at both courses and then make an informed decision.

Heard that USyd's Civil specialised course were around 90s because its like a major course, if you were able to get in then you don't have to worries about their vacancies in 2nd or 3rd year as you already made in.

I was tossing up the idea of going to USYD or UNSW bout the same time last year...
I chose unsw simply coz of its reputation...
As someone said b4 a UAI cutoff doesn't refer to the quality of the course, but the demand...
