We have an assessment task where we design our own experiment relating to 2 syllabus dot points from 9.2 and 9.3

I was suggested an experiment which a zinc and copper electrode was placed in a solution of either Acetic, citric and hydrochloric acid, and a voltmetre would be connected to both electrode to measure the strength of the current produced by the acid.

Wouldn't the acid just react with the zinc? there would be no need for the electrons to travel to the copper electrode and hence it would not create a circuit

1. Would this work, theoretically would there be a reading on the voltmeter?
2. Explain? Why/Why not.

Thanks
