I have a chemistry practical test to do in which i have to separate 2 insoluble compounds, namely - as above and then determine their separate masses. the total mass of the mixture is 5g.
cud ne1 plzz help!

Weigh first.

Then add nitric acid. Copper carbonate will dissolve, Barium Sulphate will stay solid. Filtrate, weigh the remaining solid, and you should get the mass of Barium Sulphate. Subtract to find mass of Copper Carbonate.

y will barium sulphate not react??...wont it form barium nitrate which is soluble...also wat molar acid shud i used?

No, it will not. If a substance is insoluable, it will stay insoluable. Only when there are no counter ion present which will form a precipitate with, will it become soluable.
