how did avogadro contribute to the mole concept?

well to understand this you have to start by understanding gay-lussac's law of combining volumes. In which equal volumes of gases in the same conditions, pressure and temperature, combine in simple whole number ratios.
eg, 2H2 + O2 ---> 2H2O
ratio, 2:1:2, ie whole number ratio.

Now, avogadro's law is based upon this, equal volumes of gases contain the same number of molecules. Now, the word molecules can be replaced with moles.
Therefore, equal amounts of gases in the same conditions, contain the same number of moles.
