Hey there.

I just recently bought myself a Centrino notebook. The speed is 1.3
Ghz, but in the Control Panel - > System area. The real speed
constantly fluctuates. Say for eg. one moment it is 367 mhz, the
next 678 mhz, and then sometimes (rarely) it jumps up t 1.29GHz

I am not using the battery, but using it from the adaptor.

is this normal?

Im not familiar with centrinos but i believe thats normal? CPU speed increases as required, or depending on heat, it may decrease etc... But there should be an option to turn it off i think.

This is very well a feature of most Intel Mobile CPU's, the speed decreases accordingly to how much ur currently using, i mean wats to use of having it for powered wen ur only running solitaire or sumfing, this helps u consume battery life, once again i dont own one so check the settings to make sure and give the manufacturer a ring.

Isn't it illegal for them to just install winxp without giving/selling them an OEM version or soemthing? Just threaten them with that and they will be kissing your ass. ;)

yeah i got a centrino 1.3 ghz too.

as winston says, yes the speed varies according to how much processing power is needed at the time - nothing to worry about.

whe you view system properties the cpu is shown as a pentium M.

this 'cos a centrino technically is a lappy that contains intels pentium m chip and their wireless card
