I think I know what it is but it only involved one person, overall I think it was a pretty fun camp.

omg, are you serious that someone is in trouble for something at a camp?????

AT A UNI CAMP?????

OMG?!

unless they raped/murdered someone then who cares what anyone did????
Not necessarily in trouble. SOmeone could have passed out and almost died? Someone cut their fingers and an ambulance was needed? Someone tripped over and landed on broken glasses, almost cutitng their windpipes? Bad things can happen at camp but doesnt mean someone is in trouble.

whoever the fuck organised that did a fucking terrible job
It's the only time available for them, iirc. I asked one of the execs and they tried the midsem break but that didn't work due to everything being full :S

sounds like a normal camp

why is everyone talking about it or something???

should've organised it earlier

camp is a time to meet new people

barely any people will go midsem, and the people that do will already have friend groups

or won't have them for a reason

The only camp I'm eligible for is CSESoc, which seems like pissy shit from the description "There'll be trivia, dancing, activities outside (*gasp*)".
Is there even going to be any booze or will it just be like highschool camp all over again where we have crappy curfew times and have to do boring activities?

it's csesoc, they're all socially awkward, CSE at unsw is the perfect computer nerd stereotype

I think maths also fits the nerd stereotype as well.

From what I've heard, the Bsoc camp was overrated (and overpriced for $260). After all, in the spirit of business it is a good opportunity to make a profit from the high demand.
Conversely the CSEsoc camp is underrated. I don't know why they make it so cheap. Probably to compensate for the crappy location.
They didn't post up much on the website, since they apparently "didn't want many people, particularly outside CSE, to crash" or it will "cost too much for CSEsoc".
They make tons of $$$ anyway from their sponsors so I don't see what is the problem there :p

Around 80% of CSE kids are pretty much hooked on computer games - lol, dota, starcraft... This is what almost all second and third years (and those in CSEsoc) talk about all day. (Sad but true.)

I'm doing comp 1917 at the moment and the people seem quite nice. Surprisingly very few (less that 5%) of nerdy, geeky stereotypes I was expecting :O

I wouldn't mind going to BSoc camp if it was $200 but freaking $260...

A vast majority of the people I've seen from 1917 are flamboyant fanboys who have the most retarded (and incorrect) views ("hurr durr loonix is butter then windoes!!!") and throw around random terminology just to sound more 'teknicool'.
There was one guy who walked into our tut room (all guys) and the look on his face was like he had shat a brick, then he started stuttering about how if he was in the right classroom lmao.

Would be nice if CSE had some athletes club so sporty people (and those whose lives don't revolve around a computer) could get together and do something.

Lol you poor thing.
Avoid sitting near the front (despite what Richard said). That's where those people sit. The middle or back are fine and I've met some pretty great people there.

Yeah, I prefer sitting in the middle and back 100%. Other than that, I've made a ton of friends in COMP1917 that are social.

We don't learn much (if any) content in the lectures anyway so you may as well socialise during them.

Because it does cost too much. We made an $8k loss on last year's camp and it'll be at least 1.5 times that this year.

But we are rolling in the moneys. From memory, at last year's end of year cocktail party we added an extra $2k to the bar tab (which started at $4k) on the night, and still wound up with a ridiculous profit at the end of the year.

Unfortunately, due to Arc requirements, we can't exactly advertise camp as "come and get completely wasted with 100 other randoms and walk out knowing every single one of them".

If any camp is cheap and theres a lot of alcohol, that society is making a loss out of camp.
