Yeh it is. One of my favourites of all time.
The author killed himself because he couldn't get it published, his Mum worked after his death to get it published and it ended up being amazingly popular.

i watched the 97 film of it ages ago... and i watched like 20 mins of the kubrick version the other night (i will finish it sooon...maybe after exams) but i've heard in both versions you really miss out on the prose and narration by humbert?

Michael Ondaatje (The English Patient, In the Skin of a Lion)
Hunter S. Thompson (Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, The Rum Diary)
Umberto Eco (The Name of the Rose, Foucault's Pendulum)
Nick Hornby (About a Boy, High Fidelity)

I'm also quite the George Orwell fan. I enjoyed 1984, as well as a good chunck of his published essays.

Ive read two markus zusak books recently.. and they were both REALLY good. They had the wow factor, for me anyway because i dunno.. they just did :)
they were.. "when dogs cry" and the "messenger"

i also recommend ppl should read
"saving francesca" by melina marchetta
and "my year of meat" by ruth ozeki.... a bit contriversial but a really good read :D

i love the books by janet evanovich especially the stephanie plum series the are easy reads....
i love john grisham book and james patterson as well and jodi picoult and paullina simons....
