Hey guys, I am doing a double degree of Engineering/Commerce at either UNSW or USyd next year (Did my HSC last year and the got the required ATAR for both Unis). I am majoring in Finance for Commerce, but as for the Engineering, I am confused as to whether to do Mechatronic engineering with Biomed electives or Biomed Engineering with Mechatronic electives. Which option do you guys believe is better in terms of career prospects etc. and why? Thanks

Well, mechatronics/electrical/software engineering are the best in terms of career prospects, while I've heard biomedical is one of the worse options in that respect.

Also, if you're looking for career prospects, why not major in management for your commerce degree? It would mesh well with your engineering degree.

Biomedical one of the worst? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH. Australia and Singapore are the two countries with the biggest biomedical engineering sectors in Asia-Pacific and its set to have a massive growth

And for the op, you cant really do a Biomedical/Mechantronic/Commerce at USYD.

And UNSW biomed is post grad where you have to do an undergraduate engineering degree such as mechatronic. http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2013/3688.html

"I've heard"
"Worse" vs "worst"

The Faculty of Engineering and the Australian School of Business offer a dual degree program which qualifies students for two degrees after five and a half years of successful study: the Bachelor of Engineering (potentially with Honours) and the Bachelor of Commerce (for which an Honours program requires an additional 48 UOC).

This dual degree is offered in the following Engineering disciplines:
Aerospace Engineering
Bioinformatics
Chemical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Computer Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Industrial Chemistry
Manufacturing Engineering and Management
Mechanical Engineering
Mechatronic Engineering
Mining Engineering
Naval Architecture
Petroleum Engineering
Photonics Engineering
Photovoltaics & Solar Energy
Renewable Energy Engineering
Software Engineering Program3653
Surveying & Spatial Information Systems
Telecommunications
Undeclared (for students who have not yet decided which discipline of Engineering they wish to pursue)
tl;dr - No biomed in this combined degree at UNSW.

i think you mean "mechanical" is good, mechatronic isn't very good atm, afaik

You can do one or the other, but the option to get Mechanical(biomedical) [basically what you want, and what I was signed up for in sem 1 last year] is no longer available with combined degrees
If you do biomed on it's own you can major in chem, mech, elec, etc. engineering streams.
A stream within a stream
Streamception.
