"identify..." dot points from 'the search for better health'

hey ppls for the dot points:

identify defence barriers to prevent entry of pathogens in humans:
-skin
-mucous membranes
-cilia
-chemical barriers
-other body secretions

identify defence adaptations, including:
-inflammation response
-phagocytosis
-lymph system
-cell death to seal off pathogen

identify the components of the immune response:
- antibodies
- T cells
- B cells

notice how they all say 'identify' - doesn't that mean we simply need to be able to identify them? and not describe them in full detail?

What do you guys think?

yeah, well the dotpoint says 'identify', which means you just have to be able to name them

but as xiao said, knowing the basics about how they work wouldn't hurt

Im not sure if its on a different dot point, i think it is actually. Theres the whole Helper T cells, Killer T cells, natural killers, macrophages and all that jazz and how they interact. I know there's more, just naming some. yeah.

You need to have a rough description of what they do.
For example:
Skin: When unbroken, skin prevents the entry of pathogens. Pores in the skin secrete substances that kill bacteria.
Cilia: Move with a wavelike motion to push pathogens from the lungs up to the throat.
Mucous Membrane: Mucus is sticky and traps pathogens and other particles. When there are many pathogens more mucus is produced to flush them out.
Chemical Barriers: Stomach acid destroys pathogens, including those that are carried to the throat by cilia and then swallowed. Alkali destroys acid resistant pathogens.

There is another thread where I have outlined what you need to know for the third line of defence.

even though it says identify..its better to hav a good knowledge of it cos they can throw in 8 marks questions since u can use a lot of examples for each, especially for the first defence barrier question
