Hey guys,

Do any of you guys know what the average raw mark you need to get in the HSC in order to get band 6.

Cheers.

depends on the difficulty of the exams each year...it fluctuates
normally around 60-65/84 is sufficient enough to scrap past an E4

E4 is the equivalent of a band 6 in one unit subjects only...ie maths ext 1, eng ext 1, history ext 1 etc
band 6 is just for 2 unit subjects only

Yeah, E4 is the top band for 1 unit subjects.

EDIT: People should slow down a little.

Well it is approaching the HSC exams period, so you would expect the forums to get more active. :p

Not entirely true, look at SOR I. E4 is only for extension subjects.

question... would u all know if band 6 and e4 in math ext1 are calculated using the same scale.... ie ext1 students and ext2 students all coimbined then the cut off is *mark* those above that mark get e4/band 6 or is it separate based on which your doing

I imagine the cut-off is consistent across the whole candidature, the only difference being the title E4 for Ext1 students and Band 6 for Ext2 students.

I would think the raw mark cutoff would be at least 70 unless it was a rather difficult exam.

Okay, my bad - I just assumed this, but I guess that's what the E stands for.

Basically each unit is worht 50 marks. Therefore, you get a mark out of 50 for 1unit subjects and a mark out of 100 for 2unit subjects.

3u maths: if you are doing just ext 1 you will get a mark for the 2u component out of 100 and a mark for the 3u component out of 50. If you do ext 2 you will get a mark out of 100 for 3u and a mark out of 100 for 4u.

2u, 3u and 4u are definitely not scaled the same. Very roughly, for a 90+ you would need a raw mark of 88%+ in 2u, 76%+ in 3u and 68%+ in 4u.
