It's a very set program - ie you do specific ATAX subjects in order for you to recieve professional recognition, but yeah, its limited in that you can only basically work as a taxation consultant or similar

yeah you can always apply to transfer after 1 year, but you'll have to do well in your first year (see the Transfers subforum in Uni General)

i have 4 friends who are doing or have done taxation in the school of Business Law and they all said its good in terms of job placements.... like if u just want to do taxation... then a commerce degree with a biz law major is considered to b more or less on the same level as a law student... (only refering to taxation)

this is because in law.. u study a wide ranging of topics.. and whereas with commerce, u more or less specialise it...

i am currently considering whether i should go down the path of taxation.. and i had a talk with jason harris (legt 1711 legal environment lecturer), and he said personally his law degree didnt teach him half of the taxation stuff you would learn in taxation with a commerce degree at unsw....

so if ur worried u cant really find jobs.. dont worry... there are certainly jobs out there related to taxation..... but dont think of biz law as a supplement for a law degree cuz its v different.
